Your Protector. Your Deliverer.

We are living in very dangerous times.Terror Baby There is terror overseas and threats of terror in the United States. However, fear is not the answer.

Not very long ago… I was watching a documentary on the gun control controversy. Of course, we hear a lot about this every election cycle.

While those mourning their murdered (victims of gun violence) children cried, others paraded around them chanting 2nd Amendment slogans.

Diametrically opposed, yet passionate about their beliefs.

In the end, it dawned on me (after seeing an NRA supporter accidentally shoot himself on camera) that guns or lack thereof is not the answer for your safety and protection. Nor, for your loved ones.

So, then… what is the true source of protection for the child of God? King David lays it out for us in the text of the 91st Psalm…

1 He who 1)Psalm 91:1 The rich promises of this whole chapter are dependent upon one’s meeting exactly the conditions of these first two verses (see Exod. 15:26).dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand].

2 I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I [confidently] trust!

Psalm 91:1-2 [AMPC]

1. He who dwells in the covert of the Most High will lodge in the shadow of the Almighty.

He who dwells in the covert of the Most High: He who takes shelter in the covert of the wings of the Shechinah he will lodge in His shadow, for the Holy One, blessed be He, protects him. Moses, our teacher, hereby persuades people to take shelter in the wings of the Shechinah.

the Almighty: Heb. שדי, an expression of strength. “He who dwells in the covert of the Most High” is like (Song 2:3): “in His shadow I desired and sat.”

2. I shall say of the Lord [that He is] my shelter and my fortress, my God in Whom I trust.

I shall say of the Lord [that He is] my shelter and my fortress: and all will learn from me. Now why do I say this?

Psalm 91:1-2 [CJB]

God’s Protection from the Storm... Dwelling in His Secret Place

God’s Protection from the Storm… Dwelling in His Secret Place

To dwell in the secret place is, according to 2)(From Wikipedia) Shlomo Yitzchaki, in Latin: Salomon Isaacides, and today generally known by the acronym Rashi, was a medieval French rabbi and author of a comprehensive commentary on the Talmud and commentary on the Tanakh.Rashi, “He who takes shelter in the covert of the wings of the Shechinah.”

Our Pentecostal friends recognize the term Shechinah as the weighty glory of the Most High. It is more than an exuberant atmosphere of praise in the house of God. It is that. But it is also the feeling of confidence no matter what situation you might be facing. It is the power of knowing that, no matter how bad things might appear… we are confident in the knowledge that

Our God is in Control!

According to John D. Keyser, kevod ha-Shem is the very presence of God. He is a very present help in times of trouble (Psalm 46:1). For the believer, God is not a million miles away and we are not watching our prayers bounce off the ceiling. No, we can come boldly into His presence.

Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace (the throne of God’s unmerited favor to us sinners), that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find grace to help in good time for every need [appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it].

Hebrews 4:16 [AMPC]

It was God’s presence that kept Daniel safe from the ravenous lions in the den. It was God’s presence that kept Saul from killing David. And, if you set your heart and mind to walk with, fellowship, praise and worship the Most High God, His protection will deliver you from all sort of dangers.

3 For [then] He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence.

4 [Then] He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings shall you trust and find refuge; His truth and His faithfulness are a shield and a buckler.

Psalm 91:3-4 [AMPC]

3. For He will save you from the snare that traps from the devastating pestilence.

For He will save you from the snare that traps, etc.: To everyone he says, “He who dwells in the covert of the Most High.”

4. With His wing He will cover you, and under His wings you will take refuge; His truth is an encompassing shield.

With His wing He will cover… you will take refuge: You will be covered.

an encompassing shield: Heb. This is a shield that encompasses a man closely on his four sides. וסֹחֵרָה is an expression of סְחוֹר סְחוֹר, around.

Psalm 91:3-4 [CJB]

I like what a lot of the old timey preachers used to say: satan is the fowler, because he fouls things up.

The fowler sets traps to catch birds and small animals. Likewise, satan sets traps to get you out of fellowship with God to make you vulnerable to his attacks. Key in his arsenal is to make you so angry at someone that you refuse to forgive them. This is why it is so important to avoid strife, since satan causes a person to commit the most heinous of 3)See Proverbs 6:16-19the things God hates, which is to sow discord among his brethren.

After we have managed to untangle ourselves from satan’s deception and set our hearts to love and forgive anyone who has caused us harm, then we have free and clear access to the promises of protection for ourselves and our families.

5 You shall not be afraid of the terror of the night, nor of the arrow (the evil plots and slanders of the wicked) that flies by day,

6 Nor of the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor of the destruction and sudden death that surprise and lay waste at noonday.

7 A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you.

8 Only a spectator shall you be [yourself inaccessible in the secret place of the Most High] as you witness the reward of the wicked.

Psalm 91:5-8 [AMPC]

5. You will not fear the fright of night, the arrow that flies by day;

You will not fear: if you trust in Him.

the arrow that flies by day: the demon that flies like an arrow.

6. Pestilence that prowls in darkness, destruction that ravages at noon.

Pestilence, etc., destruction: These are names of demons; one destroys at night, and one destroys at noon.

ravages: Heb. יָשוּד, [equivalent to] יְשוֹדֵד.

7. A thousand will be stationed at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it will not approach you.

A thousand will be stationed at your side: Heb. יפל, an expression of encamping, as (Gen. 25:18): “before the face of all his brothers did he settle (נפל).”

at your side: At your left a thousand demons will be stationed, and they will not approach you to harm [you].

8. You will but gaze with your eyes, and you will see the annihilation of the wicked.

and… the annihilation: Heb. ושלמת, complete destruction. And why?

Psalm 91:5-8 [CJB]

Rashi wrote that thousands of demons are no threat to you when you are dwelling in the secret place of the Most High? Why? The next two verses explain that your protection even extends to protection from plagues and calamities.

9 Because you have made the Lord your refuge, and the Most High your dwelling place,

10 There shall no evil befall you, nor any plague or calamity come near your tent.

Psalm 91:9-10 [AMPC]

9. For you [said], “The Lord is my refuge”; the Most High you made your dwelling.

For you: You said, “The Lord is my refuge.” This is an elliptical verse.

the Most High you made your dwelling: You made the Holy One, blessed be He, the seat of your trust.

10. No harm will befall you, nor will a plague draw near to your tent.

No… will befall: Heb. לא תאנה, will not happen. Similarly, (Exod. 21:13): “and God allowed it to happen (אנה) to his hand.”

Psalm 91:9-10 [CJB]

Safe Because of the Presence of God

When you put your trust in God (not in a political party… not in a presidential candidate… not in your Smith & Wesson… not in your ADT security system), speaking out in faith-filled confidence that The Lord is my refuge, then the devils have to flee as you submit yourself to your Abba Father.

So submit to [the authority of] God. Resist the devil [stand firm against him] and he will flee from you.

James 4:7 [AMP]

I don’t know about you… but as for me and my house… we are going to dwell in the secret place of the Most High.  His peace and protection will save you from floods (see BVOV Magazine, Page 10, “Living in Uncertain Times”).

Isaiah 43 2, God's Protection

Isaiah 43:2, God’s Protection

11 For He will give His angels [especial] charge over you to accompany and defend and preserve you in all your ways [of obedience and service].

12 They shall bear you up on their hands, lest you dash your foot against a stone.

13 You shall tread upon the lion and adder; the young lion and the serpent shall you trample underfoot.

Psalm 91:11-13 [AMPC]

11. For He will command His angels on your behalf to guard you in all your ways.

12. On [their] hands they will bear you, lest your foot stumble on a stone.

lest… stumble: Heb. תגף, lest it [your foot] stumble, and so every expression of נְגִפָה, acupir, azoper, to hit, strike against.

13. On a young lion and a cobra you will tread; you will trample the young lion and the serpent.

Psalm 91:11-13 [CJB]

When it seems that God is not near and fear begins to overwhelm your heart, just set your love upon Him. As the spirit of praise and worship rises up in your heart, ushering you to the throne room (see Hebrews 4:16)… you will be in the Secret Place. Don’t worry, satan is not invited there!

14 Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows and understands My name [has a personal knowledge of My mercy, love, and kindness—trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never forsake him, no, never].

15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.

16 With long life will I satisfy him and show him My salvation.

Psalm 91:14-16 [AMPC]

14. For he yearns for Me, and I shall rescue him; I shall fortify him because he knows My name.

15. He will call Me and I shall answer him; I am with him in distress; I shall rescue him and I shall honor him.

16. With length of days I shall satiate him, and I shall show him My salvation.

Psalm 91:14-16 [CJB]

If you yearn for God, He will rescue you.

If you know His name (see Joseph Prince’s video teaching), He will fortify you.

If you call on God, He will answer you… be with you… rescue you… and honor you.

You will be satisfied with a long and fruitful life.

You will see His Yeshua (Jesus, the source of your salvation).

All of these promises, and more, come from dwelling in God’s Secret Place.
